CUMBRIAN COAST LINE

The 'Cumbrian Coast Line' is a rail route in North West England, running from Carlisle to Barrow-in-Furness via Workington and Whitehaven. The line forms part of Network Rail route NW 4033, which continues (as the Furness Line) via Ulverston and Grange-over-Sands to Carnforth, where it connects with the West Coast Main Line.

Train services are operated by Northern Rail between Carlisle and Whitehaven or Barrow-in-Furness. At Barrow, these local services connect with TransPennine Express regional express services to Manchester Airport. A few Northern Rail trains continue to Lancaster or beyond via the Furness Line, and one train a day runs from Whitehaven to Sunderland via the Tyne Valley Line. Additionally, several Northern Rail local services operate between Lancaster and Sellafield, and a few TransPennine Express services continue beyond Barrow to Millom.
