The groundbreaking for the future site of CBHS occurred in early 2001, and construction was finished by late 2002. The school offers a broad range of academic pursuits including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, honors courses, and an impressive array of academic and extracurricular student clubs and organizations. Cypress Bay enrolls over 5,500 students, making it the largest high school in the nation. It is located adjacent to Falcon Cove Middle School, another accomplished public school in the city of Weston.
Since the 2003-2004 school year, an annex (dubbed "The Island at Cypress Bay") has been used to accommodate 9th grade students in order to alleviate overcrowding. An additional building was added to the main campus for the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year.
