DANCING ON ICE

(Redirected from Dancing On Ice)

'''Dancing on Ice''' is a British television show, in which celebrities and their professional partners dance on ice in front of a panel of judges. The format, devised by ITV Productions, has been a prime-time hit in 8 different countries including Australia (where it is titled ''Torvill and Dean's Dancing on Ice'' and was axed after just one series), Germany, Italy and Belgium.
Despite network doubts about its viability, the show became a surprise hit in Britain, where it became the 3rd highest rated television show of 2006. It attained an impressive 13 million viewers for the final in March.
Britain's best-known ice-skating duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean help to train the aspiring dancers, and also appear throughout the show with comments and advice. Karen Barber also trains the skaters for the live show. They also open every episode with a performance. The show is presented by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, with commentary from Tony Gubba. Two supplementary programmes also air - ''Dancing On Ice Defrosted'', presented by Stephen Mulhern, and ''Dancing on Ice Exclusive'', fronted by ex-contestant Andi Peters and Ben Shephard.

Format

Each week all the celebrities will perform a dance routine with a professional skating partner. The judges (more commonly known as The Ice Panel) rate the performance using the ice dancing judging system, each giving a score of between 0.0 and 6.0. The scores create a leaderboard which forms 50% of the final version, the other half of it comes from the public vote.
Once the scores and votes are combined to form the final leaderboard for that week's show, the two couples at the bottom compete in a final showdown known as "The Skate Off", where they perform their routine again. Once both couples have performed their routines for the judging panel, the five judges decide on who deserves to stay and cast their votes. The couple with the most votes from the judges receives a place in the following week's show, while the couple with the least votes leaves the competition.

Spin Offs

Like many other reality TV shows, Dancing on Ice has 2 different spin off shows. The first one, presented by Stephen Mulhern is called ''Dancing on Ice Defrosted'' and airs on ITV2 after the main show then again after the results show. Five weeks into series 1, the defection of Paul O'Grady from ITV to Channel 4 meant that there was no 5 O'Clock show. The format of ''Dancing on Ice Defrosted'' was taken and a new daily show was made called ''Dancing on Ice Extra''. The format was twisted to match every day and was aired with eliminated contestants Andi Peters and Andrea McLean presenting. In 2007, Andrea was on maternity leave so Ben Shephard was brought in, and the show was renamed ''Dancing on Ice Exclusive'' bringing exclusives every day unlike what they did the previous year. Also, Ben is the anchor presenter and Andi is a roving reporter around the studio.

Champion of Champions

This took place on Saturday 24 March 2007 and featured finalists from both Series 1 and Series 2. All six celebrities did one routine each, scored by the judges, and then voted on by the public. The two with the highest combined score performed again (same routine) for the public's vote alone, in the skate-off. The skaters listed below in positions three to six were announced during the show "in no particular order", so the positioning may not be meaningful.

Dancing on Ice: The Tour

Following the Champions of Champions special, 31 March 2007 - 6 May 2007, Torvill and Dean went on a UK tour, performing at all the arenas with a selection of the ''Dancing on Ice'' stars from two British series and one Australian series.[1] The format of the tour was very similar to the TV programme, with all the celebrities performing, with the last two performing Bolero of which the winner is announced. The tour is hosted by Andi Peters, who was originally set to skate but will not due to him breaking his ankle during Dancing on Ice Exclusive, practising for a special routine with Kristina Lenko. The Ice Panel is made up of Nicky Slater, Jason Gardiner, Karen Barber and Robin Cousins, with a guest judge for each show, these were BBC Radio 1 DJ Letitia, ex Steps member and Celebrity Big Brother 2007 contestant Ian H Watkins, former Dancing On Ice contestant Stephen Gately.

Series 3

A third series of ''Dancing on Ice'' will be produced as confirmed by Phillip Schofield at the BAFTA awards.[2]
He has also stated that he would want actress/comedienne Catherine Tate to participate, but as she will be filming the fourth series of Doctor Who up until March, this is highly unlikely to happen. 1 member of the Dancing on ice crew will not be returning for series 3 .
Judge Natalia Bestemianova will not return. Her replacement has not yet been named.
