History

DHS was built in 1959, and is currently in a relatively stable state. Parts of the school have partially degraded over the years, and it is now in "Planning for Improvement Phase: 1".[2] Throughout the years, Dartmouth High has had two major additions, in 1961 and 1969. These added the "New Gym" to the school, a much larger auditorium, as well as a new wing facing the Halifax Harbour. DHS's unofficial rival school is Prince Andrew High School.

Staff

During the 2005-2006 school year, Dartmouth High School has had a teaching staff of roughly 60. Due to changes in the teacher pension plan in Nova Scotia, 19 have retired in 2006.
The school's principal, Phil Legere, was honoured with the SAA "Distinguished Principal's Award" in 2005.

The Arts

In 2001, 2003 and 2006, the school's concert band went to Cuba to help promote music and perform in the country. The concert band usually goes on lengthy and distant trips each year.
The drama department stages a large scale production each year in conjunction with the school's band.
