DAVE & BUSTER'S
(Redirected from Dave and Buster\'s)
__NOTOC__
'Dave & Buster's' () is an American restaurant and entertainment business.
Each D&B has a full-service restaurant, a video arcade called the "Million Dollar Midway," pool tables, shuffleboard courts, and several private conference rooms. Some locations inherited from Jillian's (see below) offer the Grand Sports Cafe, which features large-screen television monitors, some in high definition, and bowling alleys.
The first Dave & Buster's opened in Dallas, Texas in December of 1982. David Corriveau and James "Buster" Corley, from which the firm derives its name, had earlier owned, respectively, a video arcade and a restaurant at the Missouri Pacific train station in Little Rock, Arkansas. They had noticed that the locations shared many of the same customers, and they opened a business that combined the two at an abandoned warehouse. The next year, a second location opened in Dallas, and in 1987, it expanded to Houston, Texas.
For a brief period, D&B was owned by Edison Brothers, which also owned a nationwide chain of video arcades called Time-Out. When Edison went out of business, Corriveau and Corley borrowed capital to maintain the company on their own.
In 2005, Dave & Buster's converted nine former Jillian's outlets to the D&B name. They had been acquired from Jillian's parent company in November 2004 after Jillian's had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The company announced on December 8, 2005 that it would be acquired by private equity firm Wellspring Capital Management LLC. However, some stock is still publicly available.
Dave & Buster's is the sponsor of the current concert tour of the rock band Bowling for Soup. It has also launched Corporate Recess, a site that combines games played during downtime in white collar offices with elements of YouTube.
