'David Roberts' (born July 14, 1956) is the current mayor of Hoboken, New Jersey and is Hoboken's 36th mayor.
He was elected mayor on May 8 2001, replacing Anthony Russo. In the 2001 election, Roberts received 6,064 votes and Russo received 4,759 votes. Roberts' inaugural address was on July 1 2001, and he announced a "master plan" for the city that was approved by the Hoboken Planning Board in 2004.
On January 20 2005, he announced a plan to create over 13 acres (52,609 m²) of open space and new parks, called the Hoboken Parks Initiative, in addition to the parks that exist already. However, recent deveolpments in Church Square Park, in which very old London plane trees were cut down, have been heavily criticized[1].
