'''Death Defying Acts''' is an upcoming supernatural romantic thriller expected to be released in early 2008 and hyped as being the next Prestige. The film (directed by Gillian Armstrong and starring Guy Pearce and Catherine Zeta Jones) follows the American escapologist, Harry Houdini in the height of his career in the 1920's.

Plot
1926, a prolonged thirteen years since his mother's death, Harry Houdini (Guy Pearce) lives with regret that he wasn't at his mother's side when she passed away. When the guilt begins to haunt him he offers $10,000 to anyone that can help him contact his mother, revealing her hidden secret.
Poorly educated mother, Mary McGregor (Catherine Zeta Jones) and daughter Benji (Saoirse Ronan), find it hard to survive in the run down streets of Edinburgh. With Mary's psychic act pulling in the public, Benji is able to gather information on members of their audience. Finally conning them into believing they can reach out to their deceased loved ones.
When the McGregor's hear of Houdini's $10,000 reward, they put all their energy and efforts into making the American escapologist their prime target, unaware of the protective manager, Sugarman (Timothy Spall). Mary finds a way through, and uses her feminine charms to attract the unsuspecting magician. Once they spend more and more time together Sugarman steps in, trying to save Houdini from the mysterious woman he knows little about.
After Sugarman offers the vibrant female money to flee the scene, the con explodes into something far more dangerous. As Houdini prepares for his most death defying stunt, the audience are intrigued as to how he'll make his escape.
