DENIS PARADIS

'Denis Paradis,' PC (born April 1 1949 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) is a Canadian politician and lawyer.
Paradis was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in a 1995 by-election in the riding of Brome—Missisquoi, Quebec. In February 1997, he was elected chair of the Liberal Party's Quebec caucus. From 1999 to 2001, he was a Parliamentary Secretary.
In 2002, Prime Minister Jean Chrétien appointed Paradis Secretary of State for Latin America, Africa and la Francophonie. When Paul Martin succeeded Chrétien as Prime Minister of Canada, he appointed Paradis to the position of Minister of State for financial institutions.
Paradis was dropped from the Cabinet following the 2004 election, and returned to the Liberal backbench.
Paradis lost the 2006 election to Christian Ouellet by 5,027 votes.
Denis Pardis' brother, Pierre Paradis, is a Liberal member of the Quebec National Assembly.
