DIGITECH
(Redirected from Digitech)
'DigiTech' is an audio company that specializes in effects pedals and consoles for guitars and basses.
One significant Digitech product has been its Whammy pedal, a pitch-shifting pedal with a variety of modes; octave down, octave up, and harmonizing capabilities. The original Whammy was popularized by David Gilmour, Tom Morello, Jonny Greenwood, Jack White, and Steve Vai. Updates of the Whammy are generally considered inferior, and while the fourth edition is more faithful to the original (with improved tracking), some still prefer the slower tracking of the original.
Some of Digitech's newer multi-effect boxes (e.g. GNX4, GNX3000 models) have a patented feature called WARP(c). This allows a musician to create notional Amplifier and Cabinet models by interpolating between two existing models and hearing a theoretically combined model.
Industry practice for creating new tones (called "patches") is limited to changing the settings of each effect, while the total number of Amplifiers, Cabinet and Effects modeled in a given multi-effect box remain fixed. WARP, by contrast, permits the audio equivalent of "new" Amplifier and Cabinet models, allowing for an unlimited range of tones.
In the Winter of 2006-2007, DigiTech unveiled their new Vocalist Live 2 and Vocalist Live 4 Pedals. These pedals contain a feature called musIQ, that "listens" to guitar chords and produces applicable harmonies of the singer's voice.
