A 'direct flight' in the
aviation industry is any
flight between two points by an
airline with no change in
flight numbers
[1][2] or
aircraft. Some sources consider a change in aircraft at the stop to also be a direct flight. A direct flight does not mean you can stay on the aircraft at any stops.
[3]
Direct flights are often confused with
non-stop flights which are scheduled flights to a destination with no planned intermediate stops.
Direct flights may also be confused with
code shared flights where two or more airlines may market the seats under their name but one airline actually provides service on the longest leg.
Airlines may also market connections to a consolidation
airport, usually a
hub where the continuation of the flight from multiple aircraft is to a single aircraft listed under several flight numbers. These flights can be marketed as direct flights.
