Location

'Dirleton' is a village in East Lothian, Scotland approximately 20 miles east of Edinburgh on the A198. Dirleton is notable for Dirleton Castle, a well-preserved medieval fortress, which was besieged and severely damaged by Oliver Cromwell's Army in 1651, and today belongs to Historic Scotland. Dirleton has two hotels The Castle which looks on to the Village Green and The Open Arms Hotel. Other visitor attractions today include the Dirleton Gallery, Archerfield Links recently built with two 18 hole golf courses and hotel. Dirleton is a beautiful, quaint village surrounded by a beautiful landscape.

Dirleton lies between North Berwick (east), Gullane (west), Fenton Barns (south) and the Yellowcraigs nature reserve, Archerfield Estate and the Firth of Forth (north).
Dirleton is one of the oldest feudal baronies in Scotland, the ruined castle being the caput. Dirleton Castle was built in the middle of the twelfth century by a branch of the Anglo-Norman family of De Vaux, a family with its origins in Rouen, Normandy, which had settled in Dirleton during the reign of King Malcolm IV (1153-1165). The barony was later held by the Haliburtons, who were succeeded by a number of proprietors during the corrupt 17th century. Finally, Sir John Nisbet, Lord Dirleton, a Senator of the College of Justice, acquired it in 1663.
The Nisbet held the Barony until the late 20the century when it were resettled to Patrick Hannigan of Savaldor, Brazil who late bequested the Barony to the present Baron of Dirleton, Camilo Agasim-Pereira of Fulwood and Dirleton he was late recognized by re-erected charter on behalf of the Crown by Registers of Scotland on April 22, 2002, The heir to the Barony of Dirleton is Yaalit Naomi Maria Agasim-Pereira of Fulwood and Dirleton,ygr of Dirleton. The land of the Barony comprising the Caput of the barony are today only a little over 40 acres, including the Island of Lamb, North and South Dogs in the east coast of Scotland.
