The 'Dorchester Penitentiary' in New Brunswick, Canada is a corrections facility that is part of Corrections Canada. It is located in Dorchester, a small village near Moncton. It was Opened July 14th, 1880 as a maximum security prison, making it the second oldest corrections facility in Canada still in operation (after Kingston Penitentiary). The prison had its climax in the 1980s when it was responsible for all maximum security offenders in Atlantic Canada. It now functions as a medium security facility.
