Club Career

In 1997, aged 17, Goian is signed by Foresta Fălticeni, a small club from Suceava county, to play for the club's second team. Two years later he is promoted to the first team, but in 2000 he is loaned to Gloria Buzău for a period of few months. Once returned to Suceava, as in meantime Foresta moved from Fălticeni, and continues to play for Foresta both in Divizia A and Divizia B until 2002 when is signed by Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ but after one year he is transferred to FCM Bacău from where he is selected for the enlarged Romania national football team.
In the autumn of 2004, Goian is bought by Steaua BucureÅŸti, his current club.
Being a tall player, he constantly scores goals, some decisive, for his team (usually by delivering powerful, well-placed, headers). In the 2005-2006 season, he achieved a rare performance for a defender, by scoring 5 goals in Steaua's UEFA Cup campaign, more than he scored in the domestic league. He scored his team's second goal in the 2-4 loss away at Middlesbrough FC in the UEFA Cup semifinal, when Steaua were denied qualification in the final by conceding a goal in the 89th minute (they had won the home leg 1-0 and had taken a 2-0 lead in the away game 25 minutes in).
As of October 7, 2006, Goian won five caps for Romania, scoring once.
Dorin's brother, Lucian, is also a professional footballer who played for Dinamo Bucureşti, Steaua's famous rivals. Now he is playing for Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ.
