Dundee United are currently '4th' in the Scottish Premier League with '10 points' after conceding in just one of the opening five matches. Barry Robson is the top scorer with three goals. Willo Flood was sent off on his debut, while Christian Kalvenes was "harshly sent off" against Kilmarnock, in a decision which gave Kilmarnock an "undeserved victory."[1] The red card was later overturned. Morgaro Gomis received United's second red card in September against Falkirk, although United held on to their lead to win 2-0.

Pre-season
Dundee United freed Derek Stillie, defenders David McCracken and Lee Mair, and Collin Samuel at the end of the previous season,[2] along with young first team squad members Gregg Burnett, Barry Callaghan and Ross Gardiner. Darren Dods was the first new player to arrive, coming on a Bosman transfer from Inverness CT,[3] with Polish keeper Åukasz ZaÅ‚uska following at the end of May for a nominal fee.[4] Irishman Willo Flood followed soon after, joining on a season-long loan deal,[5] with Inverness striker Craig Dargo mooted as another close-season signing,[6] despite United's denial.[7] Oldham's Chris Porter became the next striker to be linked with the club, with the striker expected to sign on a Bosman transfer,[8] only to sign for Motherwell after United pulled out of the deal[9]. Slovakian striker Jani Sturm arrived on trial shortly afterwards,[10] with Ivorian striker Marc-Eric Guei joining him, although neither player was offered a contract. Young Ghanaian Prince Bauben - formerly of Ajax - became the fourth pre-season signing, confirmed on a three-year deal. Shortly afterwards, Polish keeper and free agent Grzegorz Szamotulski arrived on a six-month contract as cover for countryman Lukasz Zaluska's broken foot.
The first pre-season friendly match to be announced was a glamour tie at home to Barcelona, with the Catalan club also playing Hearts during their Scottish tour.[11] Nine days prior to this, Dundee United would visit recently-relegated Airdrie United, who they beat at Tannadice during the 2006-07 League Cup. Shortly afterwards, the club confirmed further away friendlies against lower league sides, with fixtures against Raith Rovers, Forfar Athletic, Livingston and Arbroath. A 'bounce' game was also confirmed for 7 July against Dunfermline.[12]
The players returned to pre-season training on 30 June 2007.[13] For this season, the club have released new kits, with the change kit now all white.[14]
Friendlies
Season
August
★ 2 August 2007: United confirmed that striker Cedric Roussel, currently with Brescia and once with English sides Wolves and Coventry City, would join the club for a week's trial.[15]
★ 10 August 2007: Roussel appeared to become another in the long list of strikers to evade United's signature after returning home.[16]
★ 17 August 2007: As expected, Christian Kalvenes' controversial sending off was overturned, allowing him to play against Hibernian.[17]
★ 21 August 2007: Roussel ended any talk of a move to United by signing a three-year deal with Mons in Belgium.[18]
★ 28 August 2007: The search for a striker ended with Sheffield United striker Jordan Robertson joining on a season-long loan. Youngsters William Easton and Marco Andreoni went out on loan until mid-season.[19]
★ 29 August 2007: Debutant Jordan Robertson's late winner helped United beat Ross County 2-1 at home in the 2nd round of the League Cup. He had earlier won a penalty which had been converted by Noel Hunt.
★ 31 August 2007: David Proctor's time on Tayside came to an end when he was released to rejoin old manager Craig Brewster at Inverness CT. No last-minute signings were made by Craig Levein.
