RAY LAVENDER
(Redirected from Earl Ray)
'Ray Lavender' is an American R&B singer who goes by the stage name 'Ray-L'. He is signed to Akon's record label Kon Live Distribution through UpFront Records.[1] He is getting set to release his debut studio album, ''X-Rayted'' which is slated for a fall 2007 release.
The first single off the album; "My Girl Gotta Girlfriend" was released to iTunes on July 3, 2007 and its official radio impact date was July 10, 2007. The song was produced by Akon and the video directed by Benny Boom.[2] The album will include guest appearances from 50 Cent, R. Kelly, Fabolous and Akon.[3]
Born in Monroe, Louisiana, Lavender eventually moved with his parents to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue a career in music. Shortly thereafter, Lavender's father passed away in which he moved to Cobb County placing him in a new school. Meeting new friends, he met his future, but only temporary singing partner. The singing partner named JP, formed an R&B group with Lavender, known as CoLaBbo. They worked so hard together as a group He eventually went solo.[4]
Lavender has changed his stage name several times in a very short period of time, first being Earl Ray, then L.A Ray, then RayBlack and now finally Ray-L. He is mostly known for his song "Doing Doing" featuring Akon. Other tracks that he has done are "Hush", "Checkin' My Phone" and "Deez Nutz". He wrote a song for his label mate Chilli's upcoming album titled "No Rings on These Fingers" but Chilli never recorded it.
Ray-L has a lot of similarities to his mentor Akon and label-mate T-Pain. Lavender's supposed first single, "My Girl Gotta Girlfriend" was thought to actually be T-Pain due to the similarities in singing style as well as use of a vocoder for various effects. The content of Lavender's songs are also very similar to that of T-Pain. They generally follow a slow-moving, catchy beat with trademarked phrases. His lyrics are also generally aimed at women.
