'Edgewater Park Township' is a Township in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the township population was 7,864.
Edgewater Park Township was incorporated as a township by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 12, 1880, from portions of Beverly Township (now known as Delanco Township."The Story of New Jersey's Civil Boundaries: 1606-1968", John P. Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 7.9 km² (3.0 mi²). 7.5 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (4.28%) is water.
Edgewater Park Township borders Burlington Township, Willingboro Township, Delanco Township, Beverly, and the Delaware River.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there were 7,864 people, 3,152 households, and 2,099 families residing in the township. The population density was 1,043.4/km² (2,701.8/mi²). There were 3,301 housing units at an average density of 438.0/km² (1,134.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 68.07% White, 21.40% African American, 0.17% Native American, 3.26% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 3.20% from other races, and 3.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.60% of the population.
There were 3,152 households out of which 29.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.9% were married couples living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the township the population was spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 30.7% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 93.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $48,936, and the median income for a family was $52,016. Males had a median income of $38,156 versus $27,304 for females. The per capita income for the township was $22,920. About 7.3% of families and 8.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.9% of those under age 18 and 3.5% of those age 65 or over.

Members of the Edgewater Park Township Committee are Mayor Judith Hall (Democrat, term ends December 31, 2009), Deputy Mayor James Daly (Democrat, 2008), Phil Aaronson (Republican, 2007), Donna Atzert (Democrat, 2009), J. Thomas Pullion (Democrat, 2008).[1]
Federal, state and county representation

Edgewater Park Township is in the Third Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 7th Legislative District.[2]

Education


The Edgewater Park School District serves public school students in grades from prekindergarten through eighth grade. Schools in the district are Mildred Magowan Elementary School for grades PreK-4 and Samuel M. Ridgway Middle School for grades 5-8.
For grades 9-12, public school students attend Burlington City High School in Burlington, as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the City of Burlington Public School District.

Transportation


New Jersey Transit provides bus service to Philadelphia on the 409 and 419 routes.[3]
