'Edward Pelham-Clinton' was born in
1920 and died on
25 December 1988. He was an English nobleman. As he was unmarried, and were no other direct male heirs through the 2nd Duke's line, on his death the title of
Duke of Newcastle-under-Lyne became extinct.
He was the son of Captain
Guy Edward Pelham-Clinton and a great-grandson of the 4th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne.
He was educated at
Eton College and
Trinity College, Oxford and served as a captain in the
Royal Artillery during the
Second World War.
He was an expert
lepidopterist and Deputy Keeper at the
Royal Scottish Museum, Edinburgh. He succeeded his cousin the 9th Duke, in November
1988, and died 1 month later.
