ELIJAH BOARDMAN

'Elijah Boardman' (March 7, 1760 - August 18, 1823) was a United States Senator from Connecticut. Born in New Milford, he was educated by private tutors (as was his brother David), and served in the American Revolutionary War. He was employed as a clerk in a mercantile establishment, and engaged in mercantile pursuits from 1781 to 1812. He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1803 to 1805 and again in 1816, and a member of the State upper house from 1817 to 1819; from 1819 to 1821, he was a member of the State senate.
Boardman was elected as a Democratic Republican to the U.S. Senate and served from March 4, 1821, until his death while on a visit to Boardman, Ohio on August 18, 1823. Interment was in the Center Cemetery, New Milford.
Boardman was the father of William Whiting Boardman, a Representative from Connecticut.
