ELLICOTT CREEK

'Ellicott Creek' is a small stream in Western New York, United States. It is a tributary of the Niagara River, joining with the Tonawanda Creek just before it empties into the Erie Canal and then into the Niagara River in Tonawanda. Ellicott Creek is named after Joseph Ellicott, an important agent of the Holland Land Company, who played a significant role in developing Western New York.

Ellicott Creek is somewhat scenic in the northern part of Erie County.
Ellicott Creek arises in Genesee County northeast of Darien Lakes State Park. It flows westward, through the Town of Darien into the Town of Alden and Town of Lancaster in Erie County. After flowing through the community of Bowmansville in the northwest part of Lancaster, Ellicott Creek enters the Town of Cheektowaga passes along the toxic Pfohl Brothers Landfill and turns northwest to flow under one runway of Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The creek continues northwest through the Village of Williamsville, where it crosses the Onondaga Escarpment at Glen Falls, flows through Amherst State Park, and thence into Amherst.
A bike path follows the creek in the Town of Amherst, near the University at Buffalo and flows under Interstate 990 before leaving Amherst by passing under U.S. Route 62 (Niagara Falls Boulevard) to enter the Town of Tonawanda at Ellicott Creek Park.
Niagara River surface fluctuations influence creek water level up to 7 miles upstream of the mouth of Ellicott Creek. The median average daily flow for Ellicott Creek is estimated to be 100 cubic feet per second.[1]
