Controversy
'September 2003' Elma High School made news when the administration banned [http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/138713_skirt09.html cheerleaders' 'short skirts'. The ban left members of the cheerleading and drill teams, and their parents -- some of whom wore similar skirts years ago -- livid. Short skirts are allowed only at games and performances, not the hallways or classrooms. Parents argued that the new rule devalues the hard work the girls put into practicing, keeping up good grades, and raised money to buy the expensive uniforms which can cost several hundred dollars.
Another big issue is the fact that for Volleyball players, they are not allowed to wear their uniforms on game days even after school throughout the halls. It is against dress code to wear spandex, but what the girls want to know is if they cant wear spandex, then why do they get to wear them at all. Drill team and Cheerleading get to wear their short skirts with nothing underneath, while volleyball players cannot wear shorts that firmly cover all aspects of their lower region. You gotta love the highschool vollyball players.
Slaughter List
Teachers and students were stunned to find a disturbed student had composed a list of 50 students he wanted to kill. The student who put the list together wrote it this way: "Slotter List." He misspelled the word slaughter, but police fear the intent was the same. The list didn't have any explanation of what he wanted to do or why.
