ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CHINA
The '''Encyclopedia of China''' () is the first large-scale encyclopedia in the Chinese language in the modern era. It was published by the namesake publishing house from 1980 to 1993. The compilation began at 1978. It comprises 74 volumes, with more than 80,000 entries. It is arranged by subjects, which number 66 (some subjects occupy more than one volume). Within each subject, entries are arranged by pinyin as in many modern Chinese dictionaries. A CD-ROM version, and a charged on-line version are also available. A second and more concise edition of the work is expected to appear from 2007 onwards.
