ENGERDAL


'Engerdal' is a municipality in the county of Hedmark, Norway.
Engerdal was created as a new municipality January 1, 1911 - from parts of Tolga, Trysil, Ytre Rendal and Øvre Rendal.
The municipality is bordered by Sweden to the east, Trysil to the south, Rendalen to the west, and Os and Tolga to the north.
The greater part of Lake Femunden and roughly half of the Femundsmarka National Park also lie within the boundaries of the municipality.
The residents live widely spread out.

The name


The first element is the rivername Engera, the last element is ''dal'' m 'valley, dale'. The rivername is derivated from the name of the lake Engeren, and this is probably derivated from the Norse word ''ongr'' 'narrow'.
