USS ENTERPRISE (NCC-1701-E)
(Redirected from Enterprise-E)
The fictional ''Sovereign''-class 'USS ''Enterprise''' ('NCC-1701-E' or '''Enterprise''-E') is the primary setting of the films '', '', and ''. In Star Trek, it is the sixth starship named ''Enterprise'' since the Federation's founding.
The ''Enterprise''-E launched in 2372 from the San Francisco Fleet Yards under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.[1]
In the film ''Star Trek: First Contact'', the ''Enterprise'' participates in the Battle of Sector 001, repelling a Borg attack, and subsequently travels back in time to stop the Borg from interfering with Zefram Cochrane's first contact with Vulcans.1 The Borg hijacked and almost entirely assimilated the ship until Captain Picard and Data reclaimed it. In ''Star Trek: Insurrection'', the crew stops a Son'a attempt to forcibly relocate the Ba'ku people from their homeworld.1 In ''Star Trek: Nemesis'', the ''Enterprise'' is seriously damaged while stopping Shinzon from using a weapon of mass destruction to destroy all life on Earth.[2] The ship returns to spacedock to undergo extensive repairs.2
Ronald D. Moore, the co-writer of ''Star Trek: Generations'', and ''Star Trek: First Contact'', has suggested that construction of the ''Enterprise''-E started in ''The Next Generation's final season (2370), and that the ship was renamed USS ''Enterprise'' after the ''Enterprise''-D had been destroyed.[3] The non-canon novel ''Ship of the Line'' suggests the originally planned name for the vessel was USS ''Honorius'', and that Montgomery Scott was part of the team of engineers that designed the ''Enterprise''-E.[4]
A designer's blueprints show that the ''Enterprise'' has new phaser banks and torpedo launchers in ''Star Trek: Nemesis'' that were not present in ''Star Trek: Insurrection''. It also shows the warp nacelles have been moved forward slightly.[5]
'', written by Star Trek's technical consultant Michael Okuda, states that the ''Enterprise'' can travel at up to warp 9.985.[6] However, this ability has not been observed in official canon. The fastest the ''Enterprise'' has been stated and seen to travel at is warp 8 in ''Star Trek: Nemesis.''
The ''Enterprise''-E can be controlled by a "manual steering column", located on the bridge. It was seen used in ''Star Trek: Insurrection'' by Commander William Riker.1
