'Estelle Liebling' (Born April 21, 1880 - 1970) was a vocal coach who taught singing using the three register method. She stressed the "unmusicalness" of the seventh octave, as well as the avoidance of the head register in men. One of Liebling's most famous pupils, Beverly Sills, was a coloratura soprano.
Estelle Liebling had been a pupil of Mathilde Marchesi and carried forth the Manuel Garcia Jr. (Manuel Patricio Rodríguez García) tradition. Estelle Liebling's influence reached very far. For example, her method was taught by an influential vocal teacher of Memphis, Tennessee Ethel Taylor Maxwell, whose extensive line of students include long time Metropolitan Opera bass, the late Richard Vernon, Todd Payne, baritone Louis Otey, and promising dramatic tenor and writer Kendrick Jacocks among many others. Maxwell diverged from Liebling's method in that she did stress the importance of head register in tenors.

Liebling had been a favored soprano of John Philip Sousa earlier in her career.
