ETIENNE BOILEAU
See Etienne Boileau Note: text is French and is translated in English as:
Étienne (Stephen) Boileau, born in 1200 or 1210, died in April 1270, one of the first known provosts of Paris. In 1261, he was named provost of Paris by the king Louis IX. He is the author of the "Goldsmiths Statute of 1260", a collection of the statutes of the Parisian trades. Jean de Joinville draws a very flattering portrait of him in his "History (biography) of St. Louis": according to Joinville, Boileau applied equal justice without consideration for the wealth or status of the accused, and thus disencumbered the city of all its robbers and criminals.
