Eurolines bus in Mannheim, Germany
'Eurolines' is a
coach (long distance bus) organisation, operating international bus routes within
Europe to over 500 destinations in over 25 countries. Rather than being a single company, Eurolines is a network of co-operating bus companies from all over Europe, offering integrated ticketing and extensive connections. For example, in the
United Kingdom Eurolines services are operated by
National Express Group and
Ulsterbus, and in
Ireland by the semi-state bus company,
Bus Éireann. Eurolines headquarters are based in
Brussels - its ultimate owner, however, is the
UK's
National Express Group.
Due to its decentralised approach, the standard of service vary between countries. In some parts of Europe, notably
Lithuania,
Latvia and
Estonia, Eurolines is a major method of travel between neighbouring countries. In other parts of Europe international rail travel is more common and Euroline coaches occupy a niche market of mainly overnight links.
Eurolines sell passes for unlimited travel between 40 main European cities for either 15 or 30 days under the name ''Eurolines Pass'', similar to the
Inter Rail scheme.
