'''EVO''' is a
British automobile magazine dedicated to performance cars, from
hot hatches to
supercars. The first issue was produced in
November 1998 and it publishes monthly but has recently taken the decision to publish 13 issues a year. The EVO offices are situated in
Wollaston, Northamptonshire.
Much of what EVO is today has evolved from the acclaimed monthly motoring magazine ''
Performance Car''. Writers such as
Richard Meaden,
John Barker, and
Peter Tomalin are some of the familiar faces carried over from those who made ''Performance Car'' such a highly regarded magazine amongst the enthusiasts.
Jeremy Clarkson also made a name for himself among the ''Performance Car'' road test familiars. The late
Russell Bulgin also contributed his eloquent prose to the magazine. Currently, Harry Metcalfe is the managing director and editor director of the magazine and evo's scribe, Jethro Bovingdon was also promoted to editor whilst Richard Meaden is the editor-at-large. It is not sure what exactly this position is taken to be but it is possibly to take a poke at Richard Meaden's 5' 4' frame.

Dennis Publishing and going by the tag-line "The thrill of driving", EVO attempts to immerse the reader in the driving experience of any particular car, and all other aspects are considered secondary to this all emotive 'drive'. While hard data is accumulated in the form of lap-times (for which EVO regularly uses
Bedford Autodrome), cornering speeds, and straight-line performance figures, the subjective nature of the driving experience is the paramount factor by which cars are graded by EVO.
Many prominent members of the automotive industry have made contributions to 'EVO', including
Gordon Murray, Jeff Daniels, and occasionally
Rowan Atkinson. Also other contributors are Peter Dron, John Simister, Ian Fraser, Martin Buckley, David Yu, Tony Bailey, Paul Bailey, Simon George and Richard Porter.
There are also International editions of EVO, which are a little different from the original and feature more localized content relevant to the respective country. These include EVO France, EVO Italy, EVO Croatia, EVO Greece, EVO Turkey, EVO Phillipines, EVO Malaysia, and EVO Middle East (based in Dubai). Staff from these editions meet once a year, usually in Monte Carlo or the UK where each editions editors get to meet with their counterparts from other countries. Editors & writers of the international editions are usually invited for test drives by many performance car companies, from major marques such as
Porsche, to small supercar builders such as
Pagani and
Gumpert.
The 'other' contributors
In addition to the names above, it is worth noting that EVO occasionally makes reference to the term 'friends of EVO'. Some of these individuals submit contributions to the magazine, in the form of submissions outlining their experience with their own motorcars. Current such vehicles include the
Porsche Carrera GT and
Lamborghini Murciélago. This is a slightly different take on the 'fleet' theme often adopted by motoring publications, as the vehicles featured are often press-demonstrators, and therefore are loaded to the gunwales with all manner of upgrades and options.
