EXPEDITION 16

'Expedition 16' is the 16th expedition to the International Space Station (ISS).
The first two crew members, Yuri Malenchenko, and Peggy Whitson are scheduled for launch on October 6 2007, aboard Soyuz TMA-11, together with Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, the first Malaysian astronaut.
For the first part of the mission, Flight Engineer Clayton Anderson will still be onboard from Expedition 15. This will be only for a matter of days as STS-120 is scheduled to launch on October 20 and dock two days later, the day after Soyuz TMA-10 undocks and lands. STS-120 will replace Anderson with new Flight Engineer Dan Tani. If STS-122 launches on schedule, they will be joined by Léopold Eyharts, who will be launched aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis on December 6, replacing Tani. They will also be joined by Garrett Reisman who will be launched aboard Endeavour on STS-123 on February 14, replacing Eyharts and he will continue his stint on the ISS through the first part of Expedition 17. Expedition 16 will be the first ISS mission to include two crewmembers who have served on a previous expedition. Whitson will be the first female commander of an ISS expedition. In addition, STS-120 will be commanded by female astronaut Pam Melroy, creating the first time that two female mission commanders are in orbit simultaneously.
