EXPRESS BUS
An 'express bus' is a bus service that is intended to run faster than normal bus lines. These buses usually run between the downtown sections of cities and the more residential suburbs or outer boroughs. While most services run during the rush hour, services in major cities like New York City and Los Angeles, and most notably the Seattle area, have services on a daily basis operating at almost all hours due to high passenger demand. Express buses operate on a faster schedule by not making as many stops as regular bus lines and often take quicker routes that buses usually do not, such as along freeways. Express buses are also used in some cases to provide shuttle service to and from city events. In this case the 'express' nature of the service is reflected in the fact that the bus has only two stops, a designated park and ride lot, and the event destination. An express bus may charge a different fee to ride than normal buses, either higher to charge for the quicker service, or lower to promote it as an alternative to driving and contributing to road congestion.
