Brief History

''Metalurh'' has its roots in the team ''FC Antratsyt Kirovske''. After a disappointing first season in the independent Ukraine, in the 1993 season ''Antratsyt'' placed third in the Third League and was promoted to the Druha Liha. Once in the Druha Liha the club relocated to Shahtarsk and changed its name to ''FC Medita Shahtarsk''. A couple of years later the club was reorganized and renamed FC Metalurh Donetsk. After placing second in its league the club gained the promotion to Persha Liha, which ''Metalurh'' won in 1997.
