WORLD MOTOR SPORT COUNCIL
(Redirected from FIA World Motor Sport Council)
The 'FIA World Motor Sport Council' is the governing body of all international motorsport activities regulated by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. It is also responsible for the promotion of safety in worldwide motorsport, the encouragement of standardized regulations, and the promotion of motorsport in new markets, including developing countries.
The World motorsport council consists of the FIA President (currently Max Mosley) and the FIA Deputy-President. In addition there are seven FIA vice-presidents in the WMSC and 17 other members. The seventeen others must represent a national sporting authority for at least one international event. There are also national restrictions regarding the members of the council: at least 21 members (not including the president or deputy-president) must be of different nationalities. A decision by the council requires the agreement of a majority of council members (in effect, 14 members) to be passed. Ties of 13 members against and 13 in favour of a decision would mean that the decision would be successfully vetoed.
