FAIR HARBOR, NEW YORK

'Fair Harbor' is a community in Fire Island. It is technically part of the town of Islip on Long Island , New York, to which it pays tax. However, most of its residents think of Fair Harbor as its own town, even though it is not. Fair Harbor has its own volunteer fire department, and is under the police jurisdiction of Suffolk County Marine Bureau. Saltaire, is the Incorporated Village immediately west of Fair Harbor.

Fair Harbor is located on the western part of Fire Island between the Great South Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Medical Care

During the summer months a Physician
is available for "office visits"from 11Am
till Noon, and 5PM till 6PM, seven days
a week. A differenr physician is there
almost every week with an occasional
physician being there for two weeks
or longer, but this is the exception.
Emergency medical services are
available thru the local fire
departmenr with back up from
the Coast Guard as needed.
