FALCON, COLORADO

'Falcon' is a small, rapidly growing unincorporated exurb 14 miles northeast of Colorado Springs in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. There are approximately 4,000 people living in or around areas such as Meridian Ranch, Woodmen Hills, Falcon Hills, Paint Brush Hills and Falcon Heights.
It is home to Falcon School District 49. The high school in Falcon is Falcon High School, with the mascot of a Falcon. A new Falcon High school is currently undergoing construction. Also, there is a middle school, which mascot is the firebirds and an elementary school in Woodmen HIlls which is the home of the tornados.
Voters in Falcon recently headed to the polls and voted down a proposal to incorporate. Supporters said incorporating will keep the much larger Colorado Springs from annexing their land. Opponents said the small community would never raise enough tax revenue to provide basic services.
In July of 2007, Walmart opened a Supercenter in the heart of Falcon, in direct competition with Safeway Foods, and Diamond Shamrock which have been the staple of Falcon for years. The Falcon Fire Department is moving to a Brand New location to make way for Lowe's which is going to be breaking ground for a new Home Improvement Center. With the addition of Walmart and Lowe's as well as the continued business of Safeway Foods, many residents feel that there would have been more than enough tax revenue to have gone through with Incorporating Falcon.
