FARMINGTON HISTORIC HOME

'Farmington' in Louisville, Kentucky, was the home of the Speed family. The 14-room Federal style home was designed by Thomas Jefferson and completed in 1816 as the center of a hemp plantation owned by John and Lucy Gilmer Fry.
Their son Joshua Fry Speed was an intimate friend of Abraham Lincoln, and Lincoln spent several weeks at Farmington in 1841.
John and Lucy's son James Speed was appointed Attorney General of the United States by Lincoln in 1863.
Farmington has been restored as a tourist attraction and a recreation of a 19th century plantation.
