FLOYD MCKISSICK, JR.
'Floyd B. McKissick, Jr.' is a North Carolina attorney who was selected on April 9, 2007 to replace the late Jeanne Hopkins Lucas in the North Carolina Senate. He was officially appointed to the Senate by Governor Mike Easley on April 18, 2007.
McKissick is the son of the late civil rights activist Floyd McKissick.
At the time of his election to fill the vacancy in the Senate, McKissick was serving as chairman of the Durham County Democratic Party. According to a press release from Easley's office, "McKissick is an attorney in private practice with the firm of McKissick and McKissick in Durham. He is a former Durham City Council member. McKissick received an undergraduate degree from Clark University in Atlanta, a Master’s degree in Regional Planning from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University. He graduated from Duke University Law School in 1983."
