FOOTBALL WIVES

'Football Wives' was a television pilot developed for U.S. television network ABC, which would have aired in the fall 2007 season had it been picked up for a series order. The show was based on the successful British television series ''Footballers' Wives'', though it features American football, following the fictional NFL team Orlando Stingrays, whereas the original featured football.
Though ABC did not pick up ''Football Wives'' when they announced their 2007-08 line-up on May 15, 2007, it has been suggested that producers Shed Productions may meet with other US TV networks to try and get the show picked up. Since the announcement of fall primetime schedules by ABC and other major networks, the series has been given a reprieve according to a June 29 report in ''The Hollywood Reporter''. This has yet to be confirmed by ABC.[1]

NFL controversy

ABC decided not to grant a series order for ''Football Wives'', instead picking up seven other drama pilots. The reason stated was that the budget was too high to justify a pick-up. However, a number of websites, including the British media website ''Digital Spy'', speculated that the series was not picked up due to potential conflicts with the National Football League.[1] ABC's sister network ESPN carries Monday night games and is believed to have dropped a similar series, ''Playmakers'', due to NFL concerns.
At present, there is no evidence that the decision not to pick up the series was influenced by the NFL; ''Football Wives'' was one of at least six pilots turned down by ABC.[2]
