FOXY LADY
'Foxy Lady' is a song by Jimi Hendrix from his 1967 album ''Are You Experienced'', featured as the lead track on the official UK edition. It can also be found on a number of his greatest hits compilations, including ''Smash Hits'' (1968/1969) and '' (1997).
The U.S version of Are You Experienced? listed the song as "Foxey lady" [1] as it is commonly known among fans and critics .[2] The back cover of the UK version of the album, however, spells it without an "e".
Foxey is actually an old English word meaning rank, or stinking.[3] No actual clarification has been given as to the correct spelling.
The song is best known for its repeated guitar riff and solo, and is one of Hendrix's earliest uses of feedback in a studio recording. It is played in the key of F#7.
Kathy Etchingham, Jimi's girlfriend at the time, claimed to be one of many inspirations for "Foxy Lady".
DigitalDreamDoor voted it as the 24th greatest riff of all time.
