Saale, which is a tributary to the river
Elbe.
The Fränkische Saale flows through
Bad Königshofen,
Bad Neustadt,
Bad Kissingen,
Hammelburg and flows into the river
Main in

Source
The source of the Fränkische Saale is in the
Rhön Mountains,
Rhön-Grabfeld district. Two places claim to be source of the Saale, 1) Alsleben (''Fränkische Saale Quelle'') and 2) between Sternberg and Obereßfeld ('' Saale Quelle''). The source to the east of Alsleben is a well-maintained large spring. A possible third source is
Brennhausen.
