'Franklin Pierce University' is a four-year liberal-arts university in rural Rindge, New Hampshire, founded in 1962 and named after Franklin Pierce, the New Hampshire-born 14th President of the United States. The university has an enrollment of 1,608 [1] students, and is located a few miles from Mount Monadnock, overlooking Pearly Pond. The area was bought in 1854 by sea Captain Asa Brewer. Rindge tradition has it that the estate was a stop in the Underground Railroad. In the past the land has also been owned by a wealthy horse enthusiast, the Boy Scouts of America, and silent movie actress Alma Monaco. The campus today is composed of about 1,200 acres.
The College at Rindge houses three institutes:

Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication—named for Marlin Fitzwater, press secretary to presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush

Monadnock Institute of Nature, Place, and Culture

New England Center for Civic Life
The university also operates Graduate & Professional Studies centers in Concord, Keene, Lebanon, Manchester, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Many courses are offered online.
The current president of 'Franklin Pierce University' is Dr. George Hagerty.

Student Government Association

The student body of Franklin Pierce University approved a new constitution for the Student Government Association (SGA), as of Spring 2006. The new structure has a bicameral legislature (like the U.S. Congress) and an executive board.
One of the two legislative bodies is the Association of Club (AOC), which represents the clubs at Franklin Pierce University and is headed by the Coordinator of Clubs. The Association of Clubs meets every other Wednesday at 5:30PM in Marcucella Hall 102.
The other body is the Senate. The Senate represents the classes and is headed by the Vice President. Each class elects a President, a Vice President, a Treasurer, a Secretary, and six Senators. They meet Mondays at 6:30PM in Marcucella Hall 102 on the same weeks as the AOC.
All members of both the Senate and the Association of Club serve on a committee. Committee night is held when there is no Association of Clubs or Senate meeting, on Mondays at 6:30PM in Marcucella Hall 102.
The executive board consists of the President of the SGA, the Vice President of the SGA, the AOC Coordinator of Clubs, the Senate Secretary, the AOC Secretary, the SGA Treasurer, and the SGA Parliamentarian.
A bus stop, a raven statue and a clock are a few of the class gifts conceived by the senior SGA members.
The Franklin Pierce SGA was the first in the United States to vote against joining the Coalition for Higher Education Act Reform, after 500 members of the student body had signed a petition to join the coalition. One month after this vote the Franklin Pierce chapter of Students for Sensible Drug Policy returned once again with the legislation and it passed. For their efforts FPU SSDP won Outstanding Chapter of the Year in November 2006.
