FREEPORT AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

'Freeport Area School District' (FASD) is home of the Yellow Jackets and Buffalo Elementary, South Buffalo, Junior High School, and Senior High School. Buffalo Elementary School and the Senior High, along with the Administration building, are in Sarver, Butler County, and the Freeport Junior High School and South Buffalo Elementary are located in Freeport. There is also another Elementary School formaly called Freeport Elementary School, now it holds all of the Kindergarteners and is called the Kindergarten Center. In 1969, the political divisions of Freeport, Buffalo and South Buffalo merged to form the Freeport Area School District. FASD lies along the banks of the Allegheny River and is on the mouth of Buffalo Creek. It is located about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. South Buffalo Elementary was recently remolded following the remolding of Buffalo Elementary. They look simliar but South Buffalo is bigger and has a blue roof, while Buffalo is smaller and has a red roof. There are rumors about Freeport Junior High being sold and the staff and students moving to the current Senior High, and a new bigger Senior High built behind the current.

The Junior High was built in 1923 and is still in use today. In the 60's the Cafe was added to the School. Before then the students would travel out in Freeport, Pennsylvania and eat at serval restaurants.
The Junior High school used to be the high school. In 1960, a new high school was built in Sarver. Some High School events, such as football games, still take place at the Junior High.

Athletics


All Freeport teams are called "The Yellow Jackets" and are part of the WPIAL (PIAA District 7), as well as a hockey team in the PIHL. In 2007, the hockey team won the Penguins Cup.

Lenape Vo-Tech


In 1965, Lenape Vo-Tech was opened. It serves Freeport, Armstrong, Apollo-Ridge, and Leechberg. Students are given the choice to go to Lenape Vo-Tech or stay at their school in their junior and senior years.
