GWR 4900 CLASS 5972 OLTON HALL
GWR Hall Class, no. 5972 "Olton Hall" on display at Doncaster Works open day on 27th July 2003. This locomotive is used to haul the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films.
The Great Western Railway steam locomotive, no. '5972 "Olton Hall"' is a 4-6-0 Hall class locomotive, built in 1937 at Swindon Works.
The locomotive was saved for preservation from Woodhams' Scrapyard in Barry following its withdrawal by British Railways.
The locomotive has recently become famous after it was used to haul the ''Hogwarts Express'' in the ''Harry Potter'' films. This has caused some controversy as it was repainted in non-standard maroon livery and renamed "Hogwarts Castle".
Since 2004, private tour operator Beyond Boundaries Travel has commissioned the train each summer for exclusive use on its HP Fan Trips tours of the United Kingdom.
In March 2007 the train was attacked by vandals at Carnforth Rail depot (see link below).
