GABRIELLE CAREY

'Gabrielle Carey' (born 10 January 1959 Sydney, New South Wales ) is an Australian novelist, noted for her early work ''Puberty Blues'' (co-written with Kathy Lette), as well as several other novels including ''My Fathers House'' and ''Just Us''. A film version ''Just Us'' was made in 1983 with a screenplay by Ted Roberts.
She had been raised in an atheist humanist household, but while in Ireland in the mid-eighties, converted to the Catholic faith, becoming convinced of the importance of spirituality in everyday life.
She lived for several years in a small village in Mexico, returning to Australia in the early 1990s. She lives in Sydney and is a freelance writer.
She has also written occasional articles published in ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' and other newspapers.
She has a daughter, Brigid and a son, Jimmy.
