The 'Garden of Allah' was a mid-20th century gay cabaret that opened in 1946 in the basement of the Arlington Hotel in Seattle's Pioneer Square. It was the subject of the book ''An Evening at the Garden of Allah: A Gay Cabaret in Seattle'' by Don Paulson (Columbia University Press, 1996, ISBN 0-231-09698-4). In 2000, Ian Bell used the book as the basis for his play ''Return to the Garden of Allah''.
The name of the cabaret almost certainly derived from R. S. Hichens 1905 novel ''Garden of Allah'', later adapted into both a play (New York City, 1909) and filmed three times: silent films in 1916 and 1927, and a 1936 sound version starring Marlene Dietrich.
