GEORGE ELOKOBI
'George Elokobi' is a left sided defender who plays for Colchester United and is comfortable either as left back or on the left side of a central pairing. He was born in Cameroon on 31 January 1986.
George (nick name Big George) joined 'The U's' in 2004 from non-League Dulwich Hamlet after only arriving in England from Africa in 2002. He spent a short period during 2005 at Chester City working under Ian Rush, where he made four appearances, including his professional debut.
George made his debut for Colchester United as a late substitute versus Cardiff City in the Carling Cup on 24 August 2005. His full debut came three days later against Oldham Athletic, which included a clean sheet.
The big No. 16's first goal came in a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield on 24 September 2005. It came from a blistering header against the promotion rivals.
Since breaking into the team, George has played a part of the squad at Colchester that won promotion to the Coca-Cola Championship in 2005/06 making 10 appearances (2 as sub) and in the 2006/07 campaign, he made 8 appearances (2 as sub).
Whenever George scored a goal he would do the Roger Milla type celebration around the corner flag. He says that his footballing hero is Diego Maradona but he shows great respect for Milla.
