GEORGES PICOT

'Georges Picot' (December 24, 1838August 16, 1909) was a French lawyer and historian — born in Paris — his main work is ''Histoire des États généraux'' for which he twice gained the prize of the French academy in 1873 and 1874. In 1904, he published a biography of Gladstone. Married in 1866 with Marie Adelaide Marthe Bachasson de Montalivet, a great-granddaughter of King Louis XV of France by one of his mistresses, Catherine Eléonore Bernard (1740 - 1769), and by whom he had seven children, the third of which was the diplomat François Georges-Picot, being the fifth, a daughter, the maternal grandmother of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. He died in Allevard-les-Bains.
