The 'Georgia Railroad' was originally chartered in 1833 starting in Augusta, Georgia it was completed into Atlanta by Chief Engineer J. Edgar Thomson in 1845 and Richard Peters was its first superintendent.
At that time the rates were as follows:
★ 5¢ per mile for passengers
★ 50¢ per 100 miles for freight
In 1867, here were the stops available to riders:
Trains departed from Atlanta at 8:55AM and 7:15PM and arrived there at 10:05AM and 6:00PM.
The Georgia Railroad fell under common management with the Atlanta and West Point Railroad and the Western Railway of Alabama. These were later merged with the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and the Clinchfield Railroad to form the Family Lines System. This later was renamed Seaboard System Railroad, and in 1986 merged with Chessie System to form CSX Transportation.
