GETRONICS
'Getronics N.V.' () is a largely Dutch-based Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Company whose stated focus is on creating value for business through Workspace Management Services and Application Services. Getronics is a second-tier, international provider of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services with a strong reliance on Microsoft and Cisco solutions. Getronics designs, integrates and manages ICT systems for many global and local companies and organisations and has approximately 23,000 employees worldwide. Its headquarters are in Amsterdam, with regional offices in Boston and Singapore.
The firm's history began with the incorporation of Groeneveld, Van der Pol & Co.'s Elektrotechnische Fabriek N.V. in 1887. Groeneveld installed control and technical equipment for the shipbuilding, utilities and construction industries. From there, over the next century, the company went through a number of transformations and name changes, becoming Geveke Electronics NV in 1985, then Getronics NV in 1988. In 1999, Getronics acquired Wang, and with it an international market. Following the collapse of the internet bubble, Getronics endured several turbulent years and near financial collapse. In 2005, Getronics expanded its capabilities in security and applications with its acquisitions of PinkRoccade and RedSiren. Following large losses and fraud in its Italian operations in 2005, the company was in breach of its banking covenants and began a hasty series of disinvestments. In 2006 and 2007, the firm sold its Italian, Eastern European, French, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese operations and two profitable Dutch businesses (HR Services and KZA). In the first half of 2007, the company twice announced impairments of the value of its UK business, and also impaired the value of its Belgian and US operations.
During 2007, the company had been courted by Dutch Telecoms provider KPN and an unnamed American party (rumoured to be SystemsNet) as a potential take-over candidate.
On 2007-07-30, it was announced that Dutch telecommunications company KPN would buy Getronics for €766 million.[1]
Getronics is presently subject to investigation by the Dutch Authority for Financial Markets (AFM) on several counts concerning the provision of timely and accurate information to the market.
