GILFACH

'Gilfach' is the small district that lies between Bargoed and Pengam in the principal area of Caerphilly (county borough). Gilfach is a Welsh word from Gil (retreat) and Fach (mutated from Bach - small) meaning a little retreat. Gilfach is located about 7 miles North of the main town of Caerphilly.
Gilfach is the smallest of the three wards that make up the Greater Bargoed Partnership with one County Borough Councillor and two town Councillors present in the village. The strength of the Community comes from the huge contribution from the voluntary sector which dominates all aspects of life, a vibrant and positive array of interests are available to local & neighbouring areas alike.
The OAP Welfare Hall caters for the needs of the aged with weekly meetings and luncheon club, also enjoying these pleasant facilities are the Deaf Club, Dancing Club, Ladies keep fit, Welsh Slim and a surgery for the MP, it is also available for other community activities. The A&A based at the Workingmen's club provides and excellent service for the elderly.
The YMCA has more than 200 young members and other users includes a computer suite for public use and also the office of the recently elected AM for the Caerphilly constituency.
The Scout Hall caters for the needs of the Scouts, Guides and Brownies of the area and is available for occasional public use.
The Bowling pavilion, green and tennis courts are excellent facilities used by the Gilfach Ladies and Men's Bowling Clus and the general public. The community enjoys a variety of areas of recreational purposes.

The excellent Sprinfield Nursing Home, south of Gwerthonor road, the Fire Station, Social Services Dept and PC Diagnostics (computers and wheelchairs) and excellent doctors facilities are all located adjacent to Williams Street.

And finally the Garden of Peace a focal point in Gilfach used by the community to celebrate St David's Day, Remembrance Day and Christmas and visited by many local organisations during the year to place floral tributes.

Gilfach is also home to Gilfach Fargoed Primary School.
Gilfach Fargoed Primary School is in Vere Street in the village of Gilfach, just a short distance away from the Rhymney Valley town of Bargoed and seventeen miles north of Cardiff. The school is a 3 - 11 county controlled primary school for boys and girls.
The school comprises of two separate buildings, one an Infant department and the other the Junior department. The Headteacher’s room is in the Junior department and this building also accommodates 3 classrooms, a teachers resource area / library and the school kitchen. Three of the classrooms are carpeted. Two further classrooms are sited in the Infant building and in a portacabin in the yard.
The Infant department enjoys the benefits of a Nursery class, and they also have their own purpose built library.
These buildings are surrounded by the Infant and Junior playgrounds. Opposite the Infant block a playing field offers additional sporting opportunities.
The school believes in investing in people and has a forward thinking, dedicated team of teachers and support staff to meet its aims.
