GIULI ALASANIA
'Giuli G. Alasania' (Georgian: გიული გ. ალასანია) (born November 11, 1946, in Tbilisi), a notable Georgian historian and public figure, Doctor of Sciences (1987), Professor (1991), a Fellow of the International Academy for the Promotion of Scientific Research (2007), Vice-Rector of the International Black Sea University (IBSU) in Tbilisi, Head of the Stewardship Council and Professor of the Georgian University of Social Sciences (GUSS). She is mother of Georgian politician and current President of Georgia Dr. Mikheil N. Saakashvili. She is also a founder and President of the ''International Association "The Georgian Culture in Georgia and Abroad"'', organizer of many important cultural and scientific events.
Prof. Alasania graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Tbilisi State University (1969) and in 1973 received a Ph.D. degree in History. In 1989-2006 she was Head of the Department of Source Studies of the Javakhishvili Institute of History and Ethnology (Tbilisi), in 1990-2005 Professor of the Tbilisi State University. She is author of more than 100 scientific-research papers and about 10 monographs in the fields of the source studies of history of Georgia and the Caucasus, history of the Georgian Culture, National Self-determination, etc.
