GLASSFISH
In computing, 'GlassFish' is the name of an application server project by Sun Microsystems for the Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) platform. Sun is selling this as the Sun Java System Application Server 9.x.
GlassFish is based on source code donated by Sun and Oracle Corporation's TopLink persistence system. It uses a derivative of Apache Tomcat as the servlet container for serving web content, with an added component (called Grizzly) which uses Java NIO for scalability and speed.
GlassFish is licensed under the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL). On 13 November 2006, Sun announced it would also be licensed under the GNU General Public License with the classpath exception. The upcoming GlassFish V2 will be dual-licensed under the CDDL and GPL, both of which are free software licences.
